Our First Day In Mazatlan
After a long over night flight Caleb and I arrive in Mazatlan and meet our DTS leader Chris. we have a fun conversation about what brought us here, where we're from, and the people we know who have already done this crazy adventure we are just begining! right before we get to the base Chris asks if we are hungry and suggests stopping at a fruit stand, and we ask if there are escamochas there and there were! the first thing we did in Mazatlan was get this delicious fruit treat that we have been hearing our friends rave about for months! it definitely lived up to my expectations! we get to the base and we hear worship music, THEY HAVE WORSHIP EVERYDAY! so we drop off our stuff in our rooms and we join everyone in worship. instantly we could feel the Lord's presence and the Holy Spirit moving in the room! I can't even begin to describe what an incredible blessing it is to be around people who share the same burning passion for Jesus! After worship they gave us a warm welcome and we started to get to know the staff and the other three students who are already here. this was a great little piece of down time to get settled and check out the base and try to realize we are going to be here for the next 6 months...yeah it still hasn't hit me yet! we then had lunch on the patio where we have all our meals, and then went to the beach which is a stone's throw away from the base :) we swam for a bit but it was low tide and alot of the rocks were exposed that sea urchins like to live in so we decided just to check out the tide pools near by. God's creation is truely amazing and every little creature just screams that there is a creator, i really don't know how people can have such faith that this all just happened and that there is no way there is a God...i personally feel they are horribly mistaken lost souls. so we head back to the base after spending a few hours at the beautiful beach and tide pools and got cleaned up. i decided to try and make up some of the lost sleep, we had only slept maybe two and a half hours on the plane, so i took a nap for an hour and it gave me a refreshing boost. i awoke from my nap just a few minutes before dinner and then we met more of the staff, couples who don't live at the base but live near by. the sun was setting just as we were finishing our delicious meal and we decided to go for a walk down the boardwalk. the clouds were so amazing, big, beautiful, and had a lot of depth to them. the colors were amazing, so many different colors on them from all the vanishing rays of light. the weather was finally perfect! it is pretty hot here but the humidity is the worst thing! it will take some getting used to which is already happening slowly. anyways the weather was cooler and there was a gentle sea breeze in the air as we walked. the guys decided to go for a night swim and i didn't have my bathing suit on so i just stayed on the shore and let the warm almost bath water ocean run over my feet, and let God just speak to me, while i was marveling at his creation. we then headed back to the base and just hung out with the staff, talking while watching the lightning show in the distance. it was getting late and Caleb and i were finallly tired so we decided to call it a night. it really was an incredible first day in Mazatlan and first day of this crazy adventure with God! miss you all, praying for you! :) love Tasha
